FORMER MISS AMERICA
MALLORY HAGAN SPEAKS OUT FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE SURIVORS

Sexual violence can happen no matter your age. A child experiences sexual assault every nine minutes in this county. The trauma can haunt survivors for a long time, and its impact can show up in many harmful ways.

As a survivor, Mallory knows personally how it feels. When she became Miss New York in 2012 and Miss America in 2013 she made awareness and prevention of child sexual abuse her campaign. She wanted to honor her mother and grandmother, and other women in her family who’d experienced abuse. She was convinced that the cycle had stopper with her. But as she toured the country and spoke publicly about abuse, in private, she
realized that she, to, had been a victim. Like many other who live with trauma, she tried to mask the shame and embarrassment she felt. Living in the whirlwind of Miss America
travels not no seem like the time to unravel such deeply tucked away knowing. So she didn’t. But her trauma seeped on in a variety of ways. Disordered eating. Self-sabotage. Avoidance. She spent her mid-20-s running away from her past. Today, because she sought help and healing that she truly needed, she knows what happened to her was not her fault. But it took entirely too long for that message to sink in, and for her to love herself again. She wants others who may be dealing with the impact of child sexual abuse to get message. It is not your fault. Survivors deserve support. Mallory reached out to Rape Abuse Incest National Network (RAINN) they provided lifesaving tools for healing. Your local program Sexual Assault program Kedish House can help you. Call them at 701-349-4729 or their cell number 701-349-5118 for assistance.
